Mathea Leung's love for viruses is catching!!

Did you know the most abundant lifeform on Earth isn’t animals, plants, or even bacteria… but viruses?

Our incredible Y13 student Mathea Leung is absolutely passionate about bacteriophages (phages) — tiny, bacteria eating superheroes of the microscopic world! 🦠

After attending an inspiring talk at TGGS last year by microbiologist Ben Temperton, Mathea changed her career path to focus on phage research. Since then, she’s been sharing her enthusiasm with our younger students by running a biology crafts workshop and a build a phage competition.

Just look at these amazing phage models created by students who entered the competition! They’re being judged today on creativity and scientific accuracy — good luck choosing a winner, Mathea… it’s incredible how phages resemble robots! 🤖
